Re: [World Malayali Club] wow The Roman Empire

Dear fellow-Malayalis

Murli dhar Gupta talks nonsense.

During Cicero's time, the Roman poor did NOT just "work, work".  Nor did the rich exploit the poor, etc.

The poor, who REFUSED to work and preferred to roam around town (as our own poor do today), were provided with bread to eat and circuses to watch.  I.e. fed and entertained free of cost.

Those "poor" who deigned to work, were employed in the elegant mansions and gardens of the rich and sumptuously fed, clothed, housed, and cared for, and enjoyed high social status.

As a result of the world-wide conquests by Roman armies, hundreds of thousands of slaves flooded Rome.  These were treated atrociously, much like the African slaves were treated by white owners - Portuguese, Spanish, French, German, English - and ranked lower than farm animals.

The over-protected soldier returned from the wars, turned family life upside down, just as American veterans did.  Having learned blood-letting, ruthlessness, cruelty, and disregard for human life and human suffering, he treated his womenfolk and children just the same as he treated enemies in the field.

Bankers and lawyers were almost nil, under the Roman system of government.  Read "Titus Andronicus" by William Shakespeare.  The rich hoarded their wealth or built grand memorial monuments to themselves;  the accused defended themselves.

True scholars of Rome and of Roman history and its literature, will not be easily deceived by buffoons pretending to partial learning.

*Cicero of the Roman empire wrote this about the situation during his lifetime :*

1. The poor, work work.
2. The rich, exploit the poor.
3. The soldier, protects both.
4. The taxpayer, pays for all three.
5. The wanderer, rests for all four.
6. The drunk, drinks for all five.
7. The banker, robs all six.
8. The lawyer, misleads all seven.
9. The doctor, bills all eight.
10. The undertaker, buries all nine.
11. The Politician lives happily on account of all ten.
