Accountancy
Accountancy is the great art of finding every change created by the activity of any activity unit, be it a business unit or any other unit and representing it in terms of money. Every bit of activity has many ramifications—environmental, ecological, biospheric, social, psychological..., the great art is finding all these and reducing each into monetary units from the vantage point of an activity unit. The ultimate ambition has to be representing the monetary translation of the evolutions, revolutions, counter evolutions and counter revolutions and the manifestations of changes. It is History writing in monetary units. Accountancy is the ultimate gist in terms of money that becomes the concept base for understanding in each individual.
Unfortunately today, accountancy is pitting the trader against the society, by grossly diverting it into merely recording the transactions of the trader from his narrow point of view of incomes, expenditures, assets, liabilities, reserves etc and showing his/its personal ultimate interest called capital in the business unit. His motto is cost reduction which often is shifting his expenses to the society or to the environment and income increase, again often at the expense of the society or environment.
The net result of these grossly damaging objectives of accountancy is pollution and poisoning of the environment, ecology, biosphere, society and the jaundiced conceptual bases of viewing everything for the lines of understanding.
When barter was the main means of economic activity every environmental concern automatically received attention and respect in terms of protection. Each individual gave his contribution to the society and society gave his every need. The entire thing was tradition, custom, and command of the lord or the activity ordained by religion. If any activity wounded the environment, the loss was felt by all easily and that profession was ostracized by the society. But monetization has put on a platter the entire social process into the hands of the trader, who changed into gigantic corporations with hundreds of tentacles. The monster is a guzzler of profit which has taken over the powers of government, religion, and which converted the customs and traditions into idiosyncrasies. But there is gigantic loot by economics of mother earth, the great stampede being glorified into many respected sciences.
There is a need to develop a new subject—The Holistic accounting, which covers every aspect of activities and not merely from the profit or loss perspective of the trader. In these days of computerization, it is not difficult at all.
The books of prime entry or the subsidiary books, now restricted only to the trader's interest shall be increased, by including the subsidiary books relating to the environment, biosphere, society and ecology. In the beginning there will be many problems of the new start but this attempt is urgent.
