A cappella music is specifically group or solo singing without instrumental accompaniment. In these days it is popularly known as Church Choir singing with mixed parts of voices so as to bring out the best blended vocal harmony. In referring to singing unaccompanied by instruments, the traditional spelling is the Italian one, a cappella: two words, two Ps, two Ls. The Latin spelling a capella is learned, but in the realm of musical terminology, we usually stick with Italian.
There are a lot of arguments by various Church Denominations that in order to have purity of worship there should be only vocals and some who say musical accompaniments must be there. But in our modern world most Churches do their best in hosting a special Carol Service where the choir sings the best of Christmas Songs with minimal musical accompaniments anytime before Christmas in December. This is all for giving glory and praise to our Lord Jesus in remembrance of His Christmas birth. All choirs try their best in presenting good acapella singing.
