This thing about a child's life being better than our life is as pointless as saying that life in the natural state is better than our present day of life. We abandoned our life in the natural stage by hunting gathering because agriculture and cattle rearing was more efficient than hunting and gathering/scavenging. And then we abandoned primitive agriculture and pasturing for more efficient ways of life.
It is the same way with childhood. Like life in the jungle a child's life might seem idyllic. But it is not very productive or economically feasible. Since childhood seldom involves any responsibilities it has no headaches. But in the final analysis a child's life is dependent on the labor and productivity of the adults.
