Re: [World Malayali Club] Defaming the doctors

Dear Narayanaswamy Subramanian,

I most gently wish to refer to your assertions in support of the  "Noble" medical  profession, and draw your attention to the fact that
you are now tilting at windmills, as the deeds you demand evidence of,  has already been done.
The Medical Council of India--meant to protect ordinary Citizens from  predatory practices of Doctors and other Medical professionals---has been found guilty of running with the hares and NOT hunting with the hounds, and that peace shall prevail, as the Apex Court  found it fit to intervene in the sordid saga, with some high level surgery.

The Supreme Court has passed orders, superseding the Medical Council of India(MCI), and has appointed a 3-member committee headed by former CJI, Justice Lodha,  and charged the new body to revamp its functioning etc.

If H K Gupta is really serious about his assertion that

The points raised in the book are very true and are not alarmist,

then can he please tell us how many of the approximately 730,000 doctors licensed in 2016 by the Medical Council of India to practise western medicine, have been proceeded against for professional misconduct, professional negligence, and professional malpractice in the last ten years?

Who are these doctors?

How many of these have been convicted of the criminal charges against them and been jailed, fined heavily, or otherwise punished by the courts?

How many, in civil cases brought against them by patients and their families, have had substantial punitive or exemplary damages awarded against them, and were forced to pay legal costs and disbursements on the higher scale?

How many have been brought before the disciplinary committees of the medical profession, and have had their names struck off the register of doctors, suspended for life from practice, and ordered to pay indemnity to the patients and/or their families?  Plus the disciplinary committees' and courts' costs?

Which hospitals and medical institutions that hired these doctors have been proceeded against, found guilty (criminal courts) or liable (civil courts), and have been closed down or wound up by the courts for failing to pay damages awarded to the wronged patients or their next of kin?

Which laboratories and other supporting service centres have been similarly proceeded against and punished for abetting the doctors in their wrongdoings?

H K Gupta, Ravi Narasimhan and C K Madhavankutty merely reveal their moral bankruptcy if they can only point accusing fingers at doctors, hospitals, laboratory technicians, laboratories and the like, but cannot produce a shred of solid relevant credible, admissible evidence, by way of authentic documents and sworn affidavits duly attested, and are not prepared to appear in open Court as witnesses, to be examined, cross-examined, and re-examined on oath in the presence of the neutral Press and other media.

They should do their duty as citizens, as gentlemen, as honest men of integrity, and produce the hard evidence to back their words.  Name names, set out facts and figures fully.  Or else, apologise to all members of the noble profession, to all members of the general public, and in particular to readers of this respected website.

And forever hold their peace.

S Narayanaswamy
