YM,
What you say is essentially true. But I think it can lead to confusions also. In clear thinking we have to define the terms we use.
God is defined as a superhuman, supernatural being or spirit worshiped as having power over nature or human fortunes. God is supposed to work miracles which are events against the laws of nature; god is worshiped so that he can work miracles. But somehow these miracles seem to have limits. Thus if our hands or fingers are chopped off accidently, no one prays that god grow them back because we know that is not possible though he could do it as he grows back the tails of many lizards. Similarly we pray for rain only when the rainy season nears. No one prays for rains when the rains are months away.
In Contrast, the universe is the natural world which is subject to the laws of nature and miracles against the laws of nature have no place there. Since miracles have no scope in the universe prayers are irrelevant.
It is our fear that keeps the gods alive and there would be no gods if there were no human beings. In contrast fear and other emotions have no place in the universe and the universe was there long before humans came on the scene and will be there even after the humans are gone along with their gods and superstitions.
The universe has evidence whereas god has no evidence whatsoever and is mere speculation as long as there is no evidence.

God simply means the Universe. If God can see everything and change everything,in every atom, particle, energy flow in every galaxy, star, planet, moons, vacuum, then He (my god the pronoun He is so misplaced) cannot be understood if he is imprisoned in our three dimensional misconceptions.God demands understanding not unthinking adoration,God demands thinking which means living.Unthinking surrender to God and then escaping from the difficulty of thinking and taking decisions,is simply escaping not devotion. Dear Sir,I am not debating. U are a genius and such a knowledgeable person. But who has given u such knowledge or ability. it is GOD's infinite wisdom and knowledge. Gods mercy is unlimited. It is because of HIS mercy u and I survive in this earth and not by our strength. We the human beings are nothing before HIM. I am not referring any GOD nor any RELIGION.He has given us intelligent to understand the things to live our life accordingly. As u said sir u are 69 with good health (I still wish u should be) well educated with nice family and luxury life. It is because u lived the life accordIng to his WILL and your parents had taught u good culture. I hope u will definitely agree to this. It is because of your family prayers or elders blessings we are all leading a good life. There are instances of an educated and hi fi person leads a rowdy life. why ? he has no education, no money everything is there. If we are not leading our life according to his will our life also shatters. My parents have taught me the values of life what to do and what not and accordingly we should teach it to our younger generation.SIR GOD IS THERE AND STILL HE WILL BE he does not want your money, luxury or anything. He want a humble and sincere heart.I am not a scholar or so please forgive me if i hurt your feelings.jessyOn Wed, Dec 21, 2016 at 8:05 AM, Xavier William varekatx@gmail.com [worldmalayaliclub] <worldmalayaliclub@ yahoogroups.com> wrote:Jessy,You are taking a simplistic view of things.First we have to define success which is a very tall order. At 69 I am in reasonably good health, very well educated and well read, widely traveled (33 countries), have a happy family life and have enough money in the bank and other assets to last me and my wife in reasonable luxury for our lifetime. This means I belong to the luckiest 10-20% most successful of men even by world standards. But I dont believe in god and of course do not fear him nor pray to him and this has been my way of life for the last 50 years and more.In contrast there are so many god-fearing men and women who have a miserable time. If some mishap were to befall me, religious people would say that god was punishing me for my atheism. But when thousands of god fearing people die on pilgrimages or suffer in other ways it is touted as the will of god. What kind of logic is this? If one falls seriously ill the religious parrots parrot god is trying him. If he goes to hospital and becomes well through the help of modern medicine then the parrots parrot that he has been saved by the grace of god with not a mention of modern science that was what saved him. In short as far as god and his devotees are concerned heads I win tails you lose. You are also talking of god without singling out the god you fear or pray to. Some 70 km away from home is a temple where the reigning goddess loves to listen to obscene songs. She is a primitive goddess and according to myths she comes into estrus only once a year and at that time obscene songs, liquor and blood pleases her no end. So every year people throng there get drunk, wring the necks of chicken and drink its blood and start singing obscene songs late into the night and dance. In the past even human sacrifices were conducted there. There are many gods and goddesses who love or loved liquor and blood. So do you mean to say that these gods and goddesses will teach you ethics and morals?Coming to the Biblical god, he commands the Israelis through Moses to kill all the men, married women and male children of the Medianites whom the Israelis had defeated in war. (Book of numbers: chapter 31) Only the virgins were left alive though they were enslaved and they numbered 35000. So those massacred must have been over a hundred thousand. In fact even the hardened Israeli soldiers had first spared all the women whether married or not and the male children. But the God of Moses was upset at this mercy shown by the soldiers and upbraided them for their disobedience of gods command which was massacre of all males and married females.Things go even further with Joshua whom the Israeli god helped massacre the the whole population of Jericho. ( Joshua 6:1-27) This time no man, women or children were spared by god. If that were not enough god helped Joshua burn all the cattle and crops and buildings of Jericho. But the greedy god ordered Joshua to carry away all the gold and precious stones. It was around the evening that Jericho began to lose the battle. So Joshua would not have been able to complete the massacre before night fell. So the Israeli god stopped the sun in its tracks so that there was enough light for Joshua to carry out his massacre of innocent men, women and children as well as their animals and livestock which they - the people of Jericho - had amassed with the sweat of their brow. How can such a cruel god promote ethics and happiness? In fact if you take any religion and its myths all the gods are quick to anger and revenge, and ethics have never stood in their way of attaining their vindictive ends. A god or man who is consumed by anger or vendetta cannot be happy. If the gods themselves are vindictive and angry and consequently unhappy all the time how can they make us their creatures happy? On 20 December 2016 at 10:19, Jessy Crasta jessycrasta64@gmail.com [worldmalayaliclub] <worldmalayaliclub@yahoogroups .com> wrote:Success comes through the route he/she lived and let lived viz honesty, loving and caring nature, treating poor as his/her brothers/sisters (not in money but by words, behavior) and the most by prayer and fear of god. But most important of all choose the right parents"Maybe for success also having the right parents is critical. But success is a difficult thing to measure - it can be measured by money, by fame and by other criteria. We also speak of nature and nurture. But luck also plays a significant part in attaining success - whatever it may mean. In this context there is the famous saying 'Some are born great, others attain greatness and still others have greatness thrust upon them" which means nature, nurture and luck plays significant roles in attaining greatness or success in life. The times we live in also matter quite a lot in attaining greatness. The day before yesterday there was an interview on TV with Indrans, one of the third or fourth tier actors in Malayalam films. He has studied only till the 4th standard and was a tailor who used to stitch clothes for the film industry. He is thin and undersized and his bad looks are his greatest asset in being a movie comic star. He now lives in a mansion and his children are well educated and so on. Here we see his defective looks turning out to be his biggest asset in life - a case of greatness being thrust upon him. Then there is another Malayalam star Innocent who is now an MP thanks to his star status. He is also an actor of medium quality only. He comes from a good family. All his siblings are educated and a few of them are settled in the US. In contrast Innocent was poor at studies and he jokes constantly about the number of years he spent in each class. He is also a comedian. He was given up as good for nothing by his parents and relatives. But now he is more famous than his educated brothers and an MP to boot thanks to his film roles. In contrast with these mediocre actors or comedians, there was a certain PJ Antony who was educated enough for his times and was a pioneer in Malayalam plays and movies. He won many awards for his acting including National Film Award for Best Actor and many Kerala State Film Awards. He was also Actor, Director, Script Writer, Lyricist and Novelist. But he lived in the wrong times when the arts he dabbled in, did not have much commercial value. Consequently he died in utter penury. Now times have changed and if he were alive today he would have had bigger mansions and more success than Indrans or Innocent and other minor stars who are not worthy to tie PJ Antony's shoes. This is because people have more purchasing power now than we had in our childhood. What is more entertainment is the most booming business in developing and developed economies and so entertainers such as actors, sports persons etc rule the roost. The long and the short of it all is that success is a complicated thing and it is more about our luck than anything else. Success comes from being at the right place with the right assets at the right time.
